Federated Identity Management to Power One Time Log On for Realtor Associations and Multiple Listing Services
Ping Identity Corporation today announced that Rapattoni Corporation has selected PingFederate to power a single sign-on (SSO) feature in all of its Web-based programs. The new SSO feature will allow users of Rapattoni Internet Member Services, Rapattoni MLS association sites, and Rapattoni Secure Logon systems to log on once and move freely between Web sites without having to log on again.
Single sign-on (SSO) is a security mechanism that permits a user to authenticate (log on) once in order to access multiple applications. For users, it makes applications easier to use, as they no longer have to maintain multiple accounts and passwords. In addition, it reduces administrative costs and improves security by reducing the threat of identity theft.
With over 200 installations, Rapattoni’s Web-based programs have proven to be extremely popular in the real estate industry. Rapattoni’s association-management customers represent more than 80% of the membership of the National Association of Realtors®.
Rapattoni now offers seamless access to records and functions within the Rapattoni Internet Member Services site, such as paying dues, without needing to repeatedly log out and log on. Rapattoni’s SSO software also fully supports Rapattoni’s Secure Logon two-factor authentication system for added security.
Rapattoni’s new SSO feature is based on the security industry standard Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) technology. This technology allows “trust” relationships to be established between Web sites so they can “share” users. To implement SAML, Rapattoni has added PingFederate to its software. PingFederate is an award-winning, standalone federated identity management server that is particularly well-suited for service providers like Rapattoni because it can support multiple applications, yet it does not require a heavyweight identity management system.
“SSO with federated identity management provides previously unheard-of convenience and secure collaboration opportunities for users,” said Peter Williams, CIO of Rapattoni Corporation. “It streamlines interoperability between systems such as membership, MLS and transaction management, and it enhances procedures for reciprocal access between members of different MLS associations.”
“Federated identity management is ideal for a decentralized industry like Real Estate. Title companies, banks, brokers, and agents all need to collaborate across business boundaries,” said Andre Durand, CEO of Ping Identity. “With SSO, these professionals can be more efficient and productive. They gain the benefits of hosted solutions, take advantage of integration opportunities, and cooperate regionally and with cross-industry providers.”
