BBN Technologies Participating In Best-of-Industry Team Response to TSAT Space Segment Request for Proposal

Cambridge, MA – June 25, 2007

BBN Technologies, as a member of TEAM TSAT, led by the Boeing Company, is responding to a U.S. Air Force Request for Proposals issued for the development and production of the Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSAT) Space Segment. Dubbed "Internet in the sky," TSAT is intended to provide internet-like capability that extends high-bandwidth satellite capabilities to deployed troops worldwide. BBN's role on TEAM TSAT focuses on IP network architecture and security, network integration, testing, and demonstration for risk reduction in IP networking.

Tad Elmer, president and CEO, BBN Technologies, said,"Our pedigree in advanced networking technologies will help TEAM TSAT deliver a solution that transforms DoD communications systems, allowing for secure, reliable, high-bandwidth communications anytime and anywhere."

In addition to Boeing and BBN Technologies, the team includes Cisco Systems, Hughes, IBM, Harris Corp., Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., LGS Innovations, Raytheon, General Dynamics, L-3 Communications, EMS Technologies, and SAIC. Howard Chambers, vice president and general manager of Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems said, "We've assembled an unparalleled team that is incorporating extensive proven technology into our solution." The proposal is due July 30 and a contract award is anticipated by the end of 2007.

The Boeing-led team has already demonstrated TSAT's advanced capabilities and technology maturity throughout the TSAT Space Segment Risk Reduction System Definition contract it is currently executing for the U.S. Air Force. TEAM TSAT has demonstrated laser communications, its Next Generation Processor Router, and the successful delivery of MP-3 files, streaming video multi-cast and voice over Internet protocol services using the Boeing-built SPACEWAY™ satellite currently in orbit.
