Black Duck Software Deepens Work with IBM Rational Through Expanded Software Integration
protexIP Software Compliance Management Solution Enables IBM Rational Portfolio Manager Customers to Tie Software Development to Business Policies on Software Governance
Black Duck Software, a leading global provider of software governance solutions, today announced another significant integration between its protexIP™/development platform and IBM Rational® software. Black Duck has linked protexIP, the most widely used software compliance management system on the market today, with IBM Rational Portfolio Manager, the end-to-end software product and portfolio management solution. Black Duck’s work with IBM Rational has yielded several points of integration between the companies’ product lines. Each helps executives and legal counsel work with developers to ensure software is developed in a way that meets corporate and legal objectives.
Also at this week’s IBM Rational Software Development Conference, Douglas Levin, president and CEO of Black Duck, will speak on the topic of “Open Source Leading the Way to Better Software Business.” His talk will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 2:15 p.m.
Black Duck’s protexIP platform was the first product to rapidly and accurately check software code for compliance with hundreds of open source licenses. It continues to be the top selection of customers worldwide based on completeness of the solution; ease of use by software developers, architects, lawyers and executives alike; and flexible usage models.
“protexIP is the only product created for enterprises with large, distributed workgroups,” said Levin. “These companies have long used open source and understand that policies and manual code checks simply aren’t practical anymore, given complexity of the code, size of codebases and continuous evolution of open source licenses such as the GPL. We’re working closely with IBM Rational in order to make the gold standard for software licence compliance available to that company’s customers through the IBM Rational Eclipse-based software delivery platform they’re using today.”
Black Duck partner CM-Logic, a U.K.-based consultancy, was recently named “IBM Rational Business Partner of the Year 2006.” Stephen Toop, CEO of CM-Logic, said: “As specialists in IBM Rational, we believe that Black Duck’s continued commitment to validating protexIP with products from the IBM Rational suite presents customers with a valuable solution. The integrated products offer better visibility into and control over customers’ software development processes.”
In addition to gaining Ready for IBM Rational software validation, protexIP with IBM Rational Portfolio Manager, Black Duck has integrated its flagship product with IBM Rational ClearCase®, IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere® and Rational Software Architect. Together, Black Duck and IBM Rational solutions give joint customers a range of options for helping executives, lawyers and developers collaborate throughout the software lifecycle, with the goal of making maximal use of open source technologies while complying with software licenses and company policies.
Michael Loria, vice president of business development, IBM Rational software, said: “The global nature of software development in most large companies means that businesses looking to make the most of open computing, while complying with licenses and policies, need a new type of solution. Ongoing work with Black Duck is an important facet of IBM Rational’s drive to provide enterprises with a comprehensive offering that helps them manage the complexity of the software development process and align it with business requirements.”
