Optaros Launches Online Enterprise Open Source Directory

Boston, MA – July 17, 2007

Optaros Inc., an assembler of Next Generation Internet (NGI) solutions, today announced the launch of a free, online Enterprise Open Source Directory (EOS Directory) to help corporations search and select the open source software that best meet their business and technology requirements. The EOS Directory is a single resource for the latest information on the most proven open source software for enterprise environments. The EOS Directory reduces the search and selection cost and time for enterprises researching open source options.

The EOS Directory bridges the gap between corporations seeking solutions through the Request for Proposal (RFP) process and the open source community which does not participate in expensive and time-consuming RFP processes. Instead, open source software organizations provide free downloads for companies to begin working on a solution. The EOS Directory fills the gap with expert and user ratings, case studies, forums and requests for advice based on functionality, community backing, project trends and maturity of technology.

The online directory follows the overwhelming global interest in Optaros’ first ratings catalogue, the Open Source Catalogue, which was released in January and downloaded more than 10,000 times. The widespread adoption of the catalogue spurred the requests for an online community edition. “The EOS Directory provides a valuable resource for organizations to search and compare open source software and learn how other companies are using open source,” said Allison Randal of O’Reilly Radar.

“The EOS Directory is the first environment where enterprise decision makers receive expert advice, learn what others are doing and interact with the open source community,” said Bruno von Rotz, EOS Directory Executive Sponsor at Optaros. Since the launch of the Open Source Catalogue six months ago some of the leaders have further expanded their competitive positioning. Additionally, the ratings of more than 70 percent of all the projects listed have changed, and we have added and removed approximately 45 new enterprise-ready projects to the directory. The open source community is developing rapidly so an online resource is the best approach to capture the changes and stay relevant.”

The EOS Directory is available at www.eosdirectory.com
