Laszlo Systems Named Best of Open Source Software for 2007

OpenLaszlo Wins InfoWorld’s Bossie Award for "Best Rich Internet Application Framework"

San Francisco, CA – September 18, 2007

Laszlo Systems, a global leader in Rich Internet Application (RIA) software and solutions, today announced that the company has been selected as a winner of InfoWorld’s Bossie Awards, an innovative recognition program focused on the best of open source software for the enterprise. Laszlo’s web development platform, OpenLaszlo, was named the "Best Rich Internet Application Framework" in the Best of Open Source in Software Development category.

According to InfoWorld, "The choice in RIAs comes down to Adobe Flex and OpenLaszlo, and several factors tip the scales toward OpenLaszlo. Flex is still not fully operating as an open source project, and lacks the kind of community at OpenLaszlo. OpenLaszlo skills are easy to find, and its code base is stable, mature, and tested in large applications. The selection committee also commented on Laszlo’s thriving business model, stating, "OpenLaszlo, a multi-platform rich Web application solution, may be the best closed-to-open success story. Laszlo Systems’ open source conversion unquestionably put the company in the right place at the right time."

"We are honored to be recognized for Laszlo’s commitment to open source and are proud of our team, as well as the extended OpenLaszlo community, for the technology’s progress and advancement," said Steve Ciesinski, Laszlo’s President and CEO. "This award, combined with the fact that enterprises are consistently choosing Laszlo for their RIA deployment - most recently exemplified by Verizon’s implementation of Laszlo Webtop - reinforces our strategic direction and ability to tap varied addressable markets."

OpenLaszlo is offered as a free download at www.openlaszlo.org. The platform is used to build web applications that look, feel and act like desktop software and are accessible through any popular browser – examples include the home pages of H&R Block and Walmart.com, as well as applications such as Pandora.com’s Music Discovery Service and Monster.com’s Job Search. With version 4.0, developers can choose to run OpenLaszlo applications using either Flash® or Ajax, or both.

In addition to supporting OpenLaszlo’s advancement, Laszlo Systems also licenses its own commercial products and solutions. Laszlo Webtop, www.laszlosystems.com/go/webtop, is offered as the practical path for quickly delivering multiple Web 2.0 applications that seamlessly integrate across browsers and devices. Several leading institutions are currently licensing Laszlo Webtop; earlier this month, Verizon announced its selection of Webtop for its enhanced Webmail application.

Winners of the Bossie Awards were chosen by the InfoWorld Test Center based on each company’s ability to exemplify innovation, functionality, ease of use, implementation, and a proven track record in serving the needs of today’s businesses. Steve Fox, Editor in Chief at InfoWorld, observed, "Open source software has moved into the mainstream. InfoWorld's inaugural Bossie Award winners represent mature, flexible, and reliable solutions that increasingly define the segment."
