Black Duck Software Accepted Into the IBM SOA Specialty

Service Oriented Architecture Approach Drives Business Agility and Flexibility

Waltham, MA – October 15, 2007

Black Duck Software, a leading global provider of software component management solutions, today announced its acceptance to the IBM SOA Specialty after successfully completing IBM’s rigorous SOA (service-oriented architecture) technical and business requirements. With this achievement, Black Duck’s software governance applications, which increase developer efficiency by helping ensure open source and third-party code is reused in the proper manner, can now be integrated with IBM software and strategy for SOA.

“SOA is an increasingly important business requirement for organizations because of the business flexibility it enables,” said Sandy Carter, vice president, SOA and WebSphere, IBM Software Group. “Black Duck’s commitment to SOA provides their customers with a powerful way to reduce integration costs while rapidly deploying operational applications.”

“Enterprises using IBM software to support service-oriented environments can now be assured of full integration with Black Duck’s protexIP for composite software development,” said Bill McQuaide, senior vice president of product development at Black Duck Software. “Our acceptance into the IBM SOA Specialty builds upon an already strong relationship between the two companies and underscores Black Duck’s focus on the enterprise market and supporting large-scale, business-critical software development.”

For the expanding group of companies that develop applications using commercial, third-party and open source code components, Black Duck’s offerings resolve intellectual property, security and other issues as they occur during development, instead of in the marketplace. Compliance with IBM’s SOA specialty integrates with and expands the functionality of IBM Rational’s SOA Service Lifecycle Management Solution
