Black Duck Software Further Expands its Presence in the Far East

Market-leading solution for open source and third-party license governance now made available in Asia via two new Hong Kong-based partnerships

Waltham, MA and Hong Kong – November 19, 2007

Black Duck Software, the leading global provider of software component management solutions, today announced the addition of two new partners in Hong Kong. Both Gamatech Limited, a subsidiary of the Karin Group, and Pacific Advantage International, Ltd. (PAL), which will now operate as Black Duck in Hong Kong, are partnering with Black Duck to bolster the company’s presence in Asia.

In recent years an increasing number of Asian companies have begun to realize the full benefits of open source technology and have moved toward establishing pro-Linux alliances with overseas vendors. These companies are increasingly utilizing open source software within development processes that help them assure compliance with licensing and other intellectual property requirements. Both Gamatech and PAL in Hong Kong will install Black Duck’s protexIP and offer other Black Duck services to help these organizations manage the use of software assets governed by open source and other third-party licenses.

“Black Duck recognizes that among software companies and other organizations in Asia, an ever-increasing need exists for a solution that will help administer how software assets are created, managed and licensed,” said Alan Facey, vice president of International Operations for Black Duck Software. “By building partnerships with Gamatech and Pacific Advantage in Hong Kong, we will help provide such a solution to enterprises throughout Asia, while continuing to augment our status as the international leader in the market.”

These latest partnerships, formed in Hong Kong, follow Black Duck’s recent expansion into Europe that took place earlier this year. In June, Black Duck announced the addition of three new European partners – Purple Scout, Software Quality Systems (SQS) and Sourcesense. As a result of these partnerships, Black Duck has already been able to help developers in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland and the U.K. in their use of open source and third-party components, while managing their licensing obligations and mitigating business risks.
