Laszlo and CounterPath Solutions Join Forces to Bring VoIP Technology to Laszlo Webtop

Strategic Partnership to Integrate Softphone into Webtop, Bringing Email, Contacts and Phone Capabilities Together in One Click

SAN MATEO, Calif. and VANCOUVER, BC, Canada – September 24, 2007

Laszlo Systems, a global leader in Rich Internet Application (RIA) software and solutions, and CounterPath Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB: CTPS), a leading provider of multimedia VoIP softphones and SIP applications, today announced a strategic relationship to bring standards-based voice communications to Laszlo Webtop, The Web 2.0 Desktop™.

The companies are joining forces to build CMC (CounterPath Multimedia Communicator) WebPhone, a softphone that is rapidly furthering Laszlo's vision of one-click, universal communications by tightly merging the voice application with Webtop's existing Mail and Contacts applications – all accessible from a single web browser. A live demo of CMC WebPhone, showcasing multi-line VoIP-enabled calls made directly from the Webtop's rich media interface to a PC or phone, is being featured at Laszlo's booth during the AJAXWorld Conference & Expo in Santa Clara, CA from September 24th-26th.

CMC WebPhone is ideal for enterprises, service providers, carriers and small-to-medium sized businesses looking to take advantage of the enhanced functionality and favorable economics of VoIP-based softphones, now being delivered via a cutting-edge, RIA-based interface. As the demo exhibits, CMC WebPhone users will be able to handle multiple calls, including accepting inbound or making outbound; take advantage of call waiting and alerts for incoming calls; and use Webtop's drag-and-drop capabilities to initiate calls. CMC WebPhone will eventually hook into an integrated instant messaging (IM) functionality within Laszlo Webtop, bringing together the three most commonly used modes of communication on the web today: email, phone and IM.

"Given the rampant demand for a connected online experience to support virtual workforces and on-the-go consumers, VoIP was the natural choice to be the first third-party application to be integrated into our Web 2.0 desktop," said Antony Campitelli, VP of Marketing, Laszlo Systems. "We're pleased to be working closely with CounterPath, a worldwide leader in softphone technology, to fully realize the potential of our solution."

Some of the CMC WebPhone application's unique features will include:

  • Utilization of standards-based SIP protocol that is in demand by nearly all network equipment providers
  • Seamless integration with Laszlo Webtop for multimedia functionality across multiple communications-based applications
  • Web 2.0-based interface that is built on OpenLaszlo, bringing the best of RIA design to the user experience
  • Ability to brand and customize CMC WebPhone to match your company's look and feel

"The CounterPath and Laszlo partnership demonstrates how both companies are committed to enhancing the way businesses communicate and collaborate by developing a simple, unified communications solution for Webtop users," said Donovan Jones, President of CounterPath Solutions. "CounterPath works closely with its partners to develop and integrate multimedia applications, such as voice, video and instant messaging, into their existing software."

CMC WebPhone will be available for general release later this year. To learn more about Laszlo Webtop, visit www.laszlosystems.com/go/webtop.
