Reveal Installs New TSA Certified Systems for Automated Screening of Ski and Golf Bags

Reveal Installs New TSA Certified Systems for Automated Screening of Ski and Golf Bags

Bedford, MA – February 19, 2008

Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., a developer of advanced security inspection systems, announced today its pilot programs for the CT-80XL automated explosives detection system (EDS) has successfully completed its TSA pilot at Jacksonville, FL and Denver, CO.

Reveal Imaging was contracted by TSA to automate explosives detection and streamline the process of inspecting and handling oversized bags, including ski and golf equipment, which is still a manual process in airports.  Due to the size and contents of these bags, this manual process is extremely labor intensive and is compounded during large events or sporting seasons.

Michael Ellenbogen, president and CEO of Reveal Imaging Technologies, said, “The Reveal CT-80XL automates as much of the screening process as possible. It eliminates manual handling of bags for a screening process that typically has been labor intensive.”

The Reveal CT-80XL was developed based on Reveal’s TSA certified CT-80 technology to enhance security at airports that process higher volumes of long bags, including but not limited to: skis, snowboards, golf clubs and military packs that do not fit in conventional explosives detection systems. By extending the tunnel of the CT-80 platform, TSA certified EDS detection is now possible for bags up to 2.5 meters (over 8 feet) in length.

The CT-80XL system instantly alerts screeners to complex threats in real time as bags progress through its wide 80 cm tunnel.  Using advanced computed tomography for material discrimination, detailed imaging provides all the information needed to quickly clear oversized bags, assisting TSA with the task of moving more bags through security inspection more quickly. The unit can be installed as a stand-alone machine or integrated into a baggage handling system for greater automation.

About Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc.
Headquartered in Bedford, MA, privately held Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc. is one of only three companies to successfully pass the TSA’s certification process for automated explosive detection systems (EDS).

Reveal’s CT-80 was certified in 2004 by TSA and deployed to U.S. airports to meet TSA standards to automatically inspect 100% of checked bags for explosives.

The Reveal CT-80 platform, with its breakthrough dual-energy Computed Tomography (CT) technology shrinks the size, cost and weight of certified EDS systems. The small physical size of the CT-80 platform allows it to fit into existing footprints and smaller airports. Offering low installation cost and exceptional service, Reveal’s TSA certified systems are currently deployed in over 50 US airports.
