Laszlo Systems Welcomes Kent Libbey as New Chief Marketing Officer

Joins Management Team from Microsoft to Drive Company's Marketing Strategy, Building on the Success of OpenLaszlo with a New Suite of Applications Targeting 'Triple-Play' Opportunities

September 6, 2005

SAN MATEO, Calif. (September 6, 2005) - Laszlo Systems, developer of the leading open source platform for rich Internet applications (RIAs), today announced that Kent A. Libbey has joined the Company as Chief Marketing Officer. Libbey brings to Laszlo Systems over twenty years of marketing and operations management experience spanning voice, video, broadband and mobile applications and services.

Steve Ciesinski, Chairman and CEO of Laszlo Systems, said, "Kent has a proven track record of building successful products in new markets based on innovative technologies. This experience, along with his industry relationships in communications and entertainment, bring a new dimension to the management team and will be immensely valuable in defining and realizing the full potential of Laszlo Systems as we seek to deliver a consistent user experience across communications services and devices."

Libbey joined Laszlo from Microsoft Corporation, where he was Director, Product Marketing in the company's TV software division. He led Microsoft's marketing efforts in the definition and launch of its industry-leading IP Television platform, adopted by more than a dozen tier-one telecommunications companies worldwide. Previously, he was Vice President of Marketing at iVAST, an early-stage software company offering solutions based on the international MPEG-4 standard. His career also includes executive roles in product management and operations at Excite@Home, Bell Atlantic and MCI. Libbey holds an MBA from Stanford University and bachelor's degree from Harvard College.

Remarked Libbey, "Applications already being delivered by Laszlo's open source community and Laszlo itself represent the start of a whole new category of digital life experiences. The open, rich and portable nature of Laszlo's platform is ideal for 'triple-play' and 'home-run' scenarios that advance the user experience across voice, video, data and mobile services. I'm thrilled to join Laszlo Systems at this exciting juncture in the company's growth."

David Temkin, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Laszlo Systems, worked closely with Libbey at Excite@Home. He adds, "I'm delighted to be working with Kent again. He brings to Laszlo a mature business vision informed by deep experience as both a service operator and a technology provider."
