CAMBRIDGE, MA - (September 13, 2005) - At two separate industry events in the coming week, executives from Maven Networks will discuss the explosion of broadband video, the hot category of broadband advertising, and how broadband is reinventing marketing. Given broadband's availability in nearly 60 percent of US households, and the dramatic uptick in online advertising in the past year - 33 percent growth in 2004 versus 6 percent growth in overall ad spending - media companies are looking to gain more revenue from broadband advertising. At the same time, marketers are enthused yet cautious about building consumer relationships during an era of time- and place-shifting, and how to best leverage the compelling power of full-screen video in the online medium.
At Digital Hollywood on Tuesday, September 20, Maven's CEO Hilmi Ozguc will provide insight into these issues, along with other industry luminaries on the panel, "Movies, OnDemand Content and Broadband." The discussion will highlight recent uses of promotional video-on-demand (VoD) by 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Digital, and other players. It will discuss the assumption that Personal Video Recorder (PVR) functionality will be a fixture of all home video viewing in the coming years, as will broadband connectivity. The panel will debate the ways that IP delivery of video is about to reshape the media and entertainment industry.
In addition, Robert Hammond, vice president/engineering and product development at Maven Networks, will be speaking at Kagan's TRENDS '05 Digital Media Summit on Tuesday September 13 as part of the panel "Digital Video's 39 Flavors." The discussion will address the impact of VoD, IPTV, PVR/DVR, and HDTV technology, and how to match the right business model with the right platform and audience. The panel also will explore how bundled and a-la-carte offerings will work via home media servers, home networks and mobile devices.
