Former Chairman and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Joins Prematics' Executive Council

September 5, 2006

Bethesda, MD - September 5, 2006 - Prematics™, an innovative healthcare IT service provider, today announced that Michael Cascone, Jr., the current Chairman Emeritus and former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, has joined its Executive Council. Cascone’s fellow Council members include former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, Senator John Breaux (ret.), Barrett Toan, former Chairman and CEO of Express Scripts, and Frank Newman, former Chairman and CEO of Eckerd Corporation. Prematics is deploying ScriptToneSM, the nation’s first end-to-end, fully managed electronic prescribing service that is transforming the $250 billion prescription supply chain.

“Michael Cascone brings unprecedented expertise regarding the profound impact of spiraling drug costs on health plans, particularly within the Blues' system,” said Scott Puritz, CEO of Prematics. “Michael has a well-deserved reputation as a dynamic executive striving to improve the quality and efficacy of healthcare, both in Florida and throughout the country. I believe that Michael’s experience and insights will help Prematics in achieving its goal of driving mainstream adoption of electronic prescribing.”

“I have dedicated much of my career to improving the delivery of health care by promoting high quality, improving clinical efficiencies, and reducing overall costs,” said Cascone. “Prematics, with its transformational service approach, provides physicians with the information needed to prescribe the right medication for the patient. The results will benefit all stakeholders in the prescribing process — including insurance companies, employers and consumers.”

During Cascone’s tenure as CEO, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida increased top line annual revenue to $5.89 billion, increased the number of Floridians it served to more than six million, and maintained external financial ratings that were among the highest in the country. Cascone served in many different roles during his 35+ year career with BCBS-Florida, including President and COO, Executive Vice President, and in a Senior Officer role managing each of the Company’s Operating Divisions.

While at BCBS-Florida, Cascone served on the Board of Directors of the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, where he also chaired several key committees. He also was Chairman of the Board of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's Federal Employees Program (“FEP”), one of the largest health plans in the world, with 4.6 million members and $18 billion in annual revenue. In addition, Cascone also served as Chairman of The Caucus, an organization of non-profit-oriented Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans.
