Reveal Imaging Technologies Receives $2.5 Million TSA R&D Contract For Cargo Explosives Detection

Reveal signs one-year contract with TSA to develop air cargo EDS systems

Bedford, MA – December 7, 2005

Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., a developer of advanced security inspection systems, announced today that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) awarded the company a $2.5 million research and development contract under TSA’s EDS Break Bulk Cargo Optimization Program.

Break-bulk air cargo is handled by hundreds of cargo terminals throughout the United States and loaded for placement on cargo and commercial aircraft.

“The CT-80 is currently certified by the TSA for checked baggage inspection. Cargo presents a different set of challenges, but we believe a small, inexpensive EDS system can certainly help improve air cargo security. Our mission under this contract is to optimize the performance of the CT-80 for break bulk air cargo inspection,” said Michael Ellenbogen, president and CEO of Reveal Imaging Technologies. “This is important work because break bulk air cargo is frequently carried in the hold of commercial passenger airliners.”

Reveal’s dual-energy CT technology will be applied to break bulk air cargo for explosives detection. Each break bulk package will be automatically scanned and analyzed using measurements such as density and atomic number to optimize detection while reducing the number of false alarms.

“Break bulk air cargo is a recognized national security challenge,” said CEO Michael Ellenbogen, “Reveal is proud to be working with the TSA to speed up delivery of next-generation explosives screening technology to air cargo terminals.” In October 2005 Reveal received a $24.8 million TSA order for its CT-80 automated Explosives Detection Systems (EDS) for airport checked baggage as part of a three-year IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity) contract.

Reveal is also developing explosives detection solutions under two other TSA programs with a $2.38 million grant as part of TSA’s Phoenix program for an integrated solution that revolutionizes the system design for screening checked luggage for explosives, and a $3.6 million research and development contract under Project Cambria, TSA’s Advanced Weapons and Explosives Detection System development program.

About Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc. Under a separate effort, Reveal’s CT-80 operated successfully in standalone mode at JFK, Newark, Gulfport and testing in automated mode is in progress.

Headquartered in Bedford, MA, privately held Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., is one of only three companies to successfully pass the TSA’s certification process for automated explosive detection systems (EDS). The certified Reveal CT-80 is the smallest, lightest and least expensive EDS system in production.
