Boston, Ma., September 12, 2000 Jeff Probst, the man who spent more than a month roughing it in the wilds of Borneo as host of the smash hit "Survivor," will have another type of wildlife to face come October: bargain hungry New Yorkers.
Probst has just signed on to launch a new retail business, SmartBargains.com, by hosting "Survivor Shopping" a blowout bargain-hunt extravaganza that will pit shopper against shopper for out-of-this-world deals on designer merchandise, consumer electronics, and even a desert island.
The Probst event, which will be held October 3 in Manhattans concrete jungle, will mark the official kick-off of the shopping adventure site.
"What Survivor did for TV, SmartBargains will do for shopping: its fun and addictive," says John Kerney, president of SmartBargains. "When SmartBargains.com launches, everyone can shop like a millionairebut at pauper prices. Were thrilled to secure a figure at the heart of this national phenomenon. Were especially happy because we didnt pay a dot com price."
