Eons Transforms How Americans Pay Tribute to Their Loved Ones, Unleashing Web for More Meaningful Obituaries and Life Celebrations

Alliance with Selected Independent Funeral Homes connects 1,500 member funeral homes to Eons Obitsô, the nationís largest free online obituary database

Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston – September 25, 2006

In an unprecedented move, Eons, the 50-plus media company for boomers and seniors created by Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor, today announced a partnership with Selected Independent Funeral Homes to transform how Americans remember their loved ones. Through a partnership with Selected Independent Funeral Homes, 1,500 independent, locally owned funeral homes will have access to the Eons Obits network, the largest free online obituary database in the United States, and will be offering their families a deeper, richer way to create lasting tributes.

“We are bringing back the beauty of obituaries past. We believe that people’s lives should be celebrated more than a small paragraph in one or two local newspapers,” said Taylor, founder and CEO of Eons. “We live in a mobile society where people don’t receive local news in one place, so there remains a tremendous need and desire for people to quickly learn about a passing, and then commemorate that loved one, acquaintance, classmate or fellow veteran, wherever they are. Eons is leveraging the power of the Internet to make that happen.”

Eons Obits, which is accessible at www.eonsobits.com, offers real-time obituary posting capability, instantaneously informing the Eons community of a passing. Obits offers a meeting place where members can recall stories, share pictures, offer charitable donations according to a loved one’s wishes, and console one another. Eons can even be used to instantly notify friends and loved ones, via e-mail, of a passing.

For Selected members, the Eons partnership creates an opportunity to offer their client families an interactive outlet for the celebration of a loved one’s life and a way to make a lasting tribute to someone who has changed their lives. Additionally, Selected members can offer value-added services such as links to their Web sites, maps and directions to their funeral homes, and other educational tools.

“Eons is using a complete, innovative approach to the placement of obituaries that lets people access them from anywhere in world,” said George Clarke, executive director of Selected Independent Funeral Homes. “At the same time, Eons and Selected are providing a resource for funeral-related consumer information.”
