U.S. Dept. of Justice Regional Information Sharing Systems Selects PingFederate for Trusted Cross-Domain Credentialing Project
7,300 Law Enforcement Agencies Representing Over 750,000 Sworn Officers to Expand Collaboration Using Identity Federation
Ping Identity Corporation today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) program has selected PingFederate for its Trusted Credential Project (TCP).
RISS supports efforts to combat terrorist activity, illegal drug trafficking, organized criminal activity, and other criminal priorities across jurisdictional lines. The
RISS TCP initiative expands online collaboration and the sharing of selected information between local, state, federal, and tribal law enforcement member agency personnel using
RISSNET, the
RISS Secure Intranet.
To implement a standards-based, secure method for accepting digital identities coming from trusted partner networks across jurisdictional lines, the RISS TCP project team selected Ping Identity’s award-winning PingFederate federation server. When fully deployed, PingFederate will be part of the expanded RISSNET architecture used to enable law enforcement and criminal justice agencies throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the U.S. Territories to share intelligence and coordinate efforts against criminal and terrorist networks that operate in multiple locations.
“Cross-domain credentialing allows officers who have authenticated to their trusted agency system to access resources available via RISSNET without having to re-authenticate,” said Larry Maloney, Senior Project Manager for the RISS Trusted Credential Project. “The six regional RISS centers support local member agencies with unique IT infrastructures. With PingFederate, we can provide expanded information sharing and collaboration while allowing our partners to keep their current infrastructure investments intact.”
“This contract award followed strict federal guidelines for usability, ease-of-integration, interoperability and security,” said Andre Durand, CEO of Ping Identity. “Identity Federation continues to remove barriers between organizations. PingFederate fundamentally enables organizations – in both the private and public sectors – to better execute their missions and achieve collaborative success via cross-domain single sign-on.”
In a companion release issued today, Ping Identity Corporation also announced its new initiative designed to meet the unique cross-domain credentialing and federated identity management needs of government agencies.
