Joe Boorady

President and CEO, TearScience

Joe Boorady serves as President and CEO of TearScience and has spent over 20 years in the ophthalmic industry as an executive.

Most recently Dr. Boorady held the role of Senior Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing for the U.S. at Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc. At Zeiss, he was responsible for all commercial activities of medical devices in ophthalmology, neurosurgery, ENT, spine, dental and radiotherapy.

Prior to Zeiss, Dr. Boorady held the position of COO of Eyemaginations, was the Executive Director of SUNY College of Optometry, and has owned and operated multiple clinical facilities.

Dr. Boorady is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School.

Dr. Donald Korb

CTO, TearScience

Throughout his career, Dr. Donald R. Korb has divided his time between the practice of optometry and research. Contributions include 30 US patents and over 20 US patent applications. Donald has founded or co-founded 5 research companies for contact lens or dry eye research, including: Corneal Sciences, Inc, the developer of the CSI lens, the first thin membrane soft contact lens and the grandfather of the contemporary soft lens; Ocular Research of Boston, developer of ocular lipid technology products, including Soothe XP for dry eye marketed by Bausch and Lomb, and other dry eye products scheduled for launch in 2010; and most recently TearScience.

Donald is a clinical professor at the School of Optometry, University of California, Berkeley and a trustee at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Boston, the largest independent eye research institute in the world. He has authored over 80 publications in refereed scientific journals.   He has discovered and named 10 ocular conditions, including: meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD); giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC); and lid wiper epitheliopathy (LWE).

Over 40 honors include: the Korb Annual Award for Excellence of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association; Regents Lecturer, University California, Berkeley; member, Optometry Hall of Fame; National Inventors Hall of Fame Award; over 20 Medal Awards from US and international institutions and organizations; and 2 honorary doctorates.
