Chenyang is a tax professional with an ongoing advanced degree in computer science, which he studies to understand how technology can increase efficiency in tax accounting.
Yet for someone with such deep technical expertise, Chenyang says his success comes just as much from forging strong human connections with those around him. By nature he is also open to new ideas, and continuously learning how to apply them to both challenges and opportunities.
His profession has seen plenty of both in recent years, particularly following the U.S. 2017 Tax Act reforms. Major changes in the tax code, Chenyang notes, affect investors in multiple ways, and protecting their interests has become more complex. He came to General Catalyst to address this challenge while also helping the firm advance and enhance its systems for tax accounting and reporting. With his deep background in alternative investments from previous roles at Goldman Sachs and Deloitte, he’s also well-positioned to help improve the firm’s compliance efforts as it grows and expands into new tax jurisdictions.
Having grown up in urban China, Chenyang enjoys visiting national parks and desert areas of the U.S. In New York, his explorations often involve world cuisine. He also supports Asian communities and helps fellow immigrants to find their way forward in business and life.
