Chris Wang has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He began his career at Lazard Ltd. in 2007, shortly before the venerable firm became one of the most trusted advisors for major financial institutions struggling to survive the financial crisis. Suddenly his work involved unprecedented transactions for headline firms in New York and London. Having seen how businesses can come to a sudden end, he decided to help build enduring ones.

So he pivoted into operations for another series of headline names. Time Warner tasked him with leading revenue planning in the heat of its transition to digital content delivery. At Google, he worked closely with executive teams to ensure the successful integration of newly acquired startups. He dived deep into their business models, helped build out their finance and operations teams, and absorbed emerging technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. He then partnered with leaders at Youtube to organize major product launches as it faced  an onslaught of new competitors.

Ultimately the itch to innovate took hold and Chris jumped to an early stage robotics startup and helped scale it up to go public. Prior to going venture-side, he was the functioning COO/CFO of a SaaS business at Two Sigma, responsible for business operations, finance, and FP&A. With General Catalyst, Chris will apply his broad experience and acute pattern recognition to help the firm’s portfolio companies sharpen strategies and execute more efficiently.

On the personal side, Chris loves to travel to places far different from New York – “any place that takes me out of my element and teaches me new ways to think about the world we live in.”
