Sue Kwon
With a degree from Stanford, writing experience with the campus newspaper, and a hunger for adventure, I launched my career as an intern in the White House press office, and then became a broadcast news reporter in San Francisco. My beat was Silicon Valley, which took me deep inside the proliferation of entrepreneurship that continues to launch technology companies, transform industries, and benefit society. Ultimately I decided to join that movement and shape how its story is told.
After leading editorial and content strategy for global brands, I took the communication reins for venture-backed healthcare startups. Working with entrepreneurs and investors drew on all my skills — as a storyteller, strategist and leader — and cemented my desire to make a difference every day in supporting innovation that drives powerful, positive change. That instinct soon led me to venture capital, where I could leverage my experience to benefit founders and companies at scale. As a marketing partner in venture, I supported entrepreneurs with their public relations campaigns, media training, and brand development across all stages and a variety of sectors.
I’m thrilled to bring my experience and leadership to General Catalyst. While overseeing all external communications, one of my priorities is raising awareness of the firm’s focus on responsible innovation and the activities that transcend what venture means.
Outside of work, I enjoy paddle-boarding and hosting fiercely competitive board-game tournaments with friends and family. I also find time to mentor future investors and provide pro bono programming for Venture Forward, the nonprofit, inclusion-focused arm of the National Venture Capital Association.
