For many healthcare consumers, the front door to quality care is broken. Accessing even basic services often requires navigating opaque systems that require doctor referrals and are often subject to long delays. Not only does this turn routine consultations into difficult weeks-long scheduling processes, it runs counter to consumer expectations of instantly accessible, personalized products built around individual needs.
That’s why we’re leading the $4.5M seed round for Nolla Health, a vertically integrated AI doctor that combines proprietary models, clinician-in-the-loop oversight, and consumer-grade design to create a fully automated care experience.
A Full-Stack Approach to Digital Health
Rather than deploying AI at the edges of existing care pathways, Nolla is creating a unified platform that covers diagnosis, treatment, tracking, and follow-up. Their platform is able to deliver the kind of personalized, end-to-end health assurance journey that we believe will define the future of digital health.
Their first two products have already delivered important results for 50,000 patients across Norway. The Nolla Skin Cancer App has identified thousands of potentially dangerous lesions, and the Nolla Acne Treatment App has provided personalized, prescription-grade acne treatment plans for hundreds of patients. Consistently ranked among the top medical apps in the App Store, Nolla is now expanding its services across 40+ states in the U.S.
Founders Luis Soenksen and Luis Wenus bring combined experience in AI modeling and early-stage consumer go-to-market strategies. Soenksen spent a decade conducting AI research focused on dermatological modeling at MIT, Johns Hopkins, and the Harvard Wyss Institute for Bioinspired Engineering, with publications in Nature and Science-affiliated journals. Wenus was the first employee to lead go-to-market at Worldcoin, scaling from 0 users to one million across the globe.
Our Conversation with Luis and Luis
We recently sat down with Luis and Luis to learn more about their journey to creating a consumer-first, always-on digital health platform. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
The consumerization of healthcare is an undeniable trend that we’ve seen play out, especially in the last few years. What shift do you see taking root now that you think will play out in the next five years?
We see a shift towards highly curated healthcare experiences that make you feel taken care of with zero compromises. In the next 5 years, we anticipate a substantial shift towards mobile-first healthcare offerings that are both ultra-convenient and provide the actual solution patients are seeking (e.g., expert assurance, personalized treatment, empathy, etc.). In relation to healthcare AI, the winners will be the ones that own the full stack of the patient experience. Since healthcare groups are unlikely to develop state-of-the-art AI experiences, consumer companies will be winners in this race.
How did the two of you decide to work together?
When science and research collide with great product development, efficient operations, and an obsession with the customer experience, amazing things emerge. We knew about each other’s work at MIT and in entrepreneurship. Luis Wenus had incredible experience launching great products, Luis Soenksen had incredible scientific developments, and we both had a passion for healthcare and AI. It only took us one afternoon of coffee to realize we needed to work together, and so we did.
For clinical AI, safety is critical. Tell us about how Nolla is making sure that patients receive the highest quality care?
We are investing heavily in building the best possible AI systems to detect, track, and help our users, in combination with great clinical advice and support that ensures there is a trained human expert in the loop. We hold ourselves to the highest standards with everything we deploy to patients and ensure FDA certifications of systems as they become more autonomous. Fundamentally, we started this company to serve users, so we are doing and will keep doing what is best for the patient—always.
At General Catalyst, we believe in a future of health assurance, where care is proactive, affordable, and accessible for all. Creating this future requires more than incremental improvements; we believe we need to build full-stack, AI-native platforms that, combined with trained clinician oversight, can deliver continuous, personalized, and world-class care directly to people’s pockets.
We want every person to feel like they have ‘a doctor in their family’ who knows them better than any other doctor possibly could, and who is there to take care of them whenever they need it.
