Alex Sullivan
Investment Team

I am an investor at General Catalyst, a venture capital firm that partners with founders from seed through growth stages and beyond to build companies that withstand the test of time. Based in San Francisco, I invest in growth-stage companies, with a particular focus on GC’s Global Resilience thesis to modernize critical sectors – supporting companies crossing from cybersecurity to national security, application software to software-defined hardware.
Prior to joining General Catalyst, I worked in private equity at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, where I evaluated technology buyouts across public and private markets. Previously, I worked in corporate development at VMware, where I played a pivotal role in closing twelve acquisitions totaling over $7 billion – most notably, Carbon Black, Pivotal, and VeloCloud. I began my career at Level Equity, a technology-focused growth equity firm based in New York.
I graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and Minor in Economics and Psychology. My academic career was driven by a passion for behavioral economics and understanding how human behavior influences financial outcomes – both macro and micro. During my time at UVA, I served as a research assistant to several prominent professors, contributing to experimental economics and organizational psychology research.
Outside of the office, you can find me sailing, golfing, scuba diving, and building legos.
