Alex Sullivan is an investor at General Catalyst, a venture capital firm that partners with founders from seed through growth stages and beyond to build companies that withstand the test of time. Based in San Francisco, Alex invests in later-stage companies, with a particular focus on enterprise infrastructure and security.
Prior to joining General Catalyst, Alex worked in private equity at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, where she evaluated technology buyouts across public and private markets. Previously, she worked in corporate development at VMware, where she played a pivotal role in closing twelve acquisitions totaling over $7 billion – most notably, Carbon Black, VeloCloud, and CloudHealth. Alex began her career at Level Equity, a technology-focused growth equity firm based in New York.
Alex graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and Minor in Economics and Psychology. Her academic career was driven by a passion for behavioral economics and understanding how human behavior influences financial outcomes – both macro and micro. During her time at UVA, she served as a research assistant to several prominent professors, contributing to experimental economics and organizational psychology research.
