Clifford Chiu

I am a Special Advisor to General Catalyst, contributing context and relationships where they can make a difference. Curiosity and focus have driven my career, and I learn the most from innovators and leaders who build without fear. I apply data and pattern recognition from more than four decades on Wall Street and in private equity across New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Austin to help drive commercial results. I currently serve as an independent director of Finastra, Securonix, and TRG Screen.

I am inspired by General Catalyst's Sovereign Resilience mission, which brings together GC's capabilities and portfolio companies with each country's national resilience priorities. I am particularly interested in helping build bespoke reciprocal architectures for enduring, mutually beneficial strategic partnerships.

At KKR, where I am a retired partner, I founded and led Asia Pacific capital raising and investor relations. I joined Vista Equity Partners as a Senior Advisor in 2015 and served on its Executive Committee through mid-2026. Earlier, I held leadership roles at JPMorgan Asset Management and Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup across the United States and Asia Pacific, including 17 years living in Asia. I participate in the U.S.-China Track II Dialogue on the Digital Economy convened by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Across these roles and 15 public and private company boards, I have evolved into a steward of capital, governance, and institutions. Throughout, I have sought to build mutual understanding, trust, and respect.

A lifelong champion of education, healthcare, and Asian American opportunity, I have mentored hundreds of students and professionals over my career, and it remains one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I serve as a Commissioner on the City of Austin Airport Advisory Commission, on the GenATX Steering Committee and the University of Texas at Austin's International Leadership Council, and as Chair of the Advisory Board of the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. I previously served as a Commissioner on the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars.

I received a BS in economics from the Wharton School and an MBA from Chicago Booth. My wife Leigh and I live in Austin, Texas, and have raised three grown children.
