Emma Lu

Growing up in Canada as the child of Chinese immigrants, I learned first-hand the resilience and grit it takes to build something from scratch. It also meant nothing came with a default setting: I learned to look at everything with fresh eyes, rather than inheriting a sense of how things are supposed to be.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Finance & Statistics from Wharton and a B.A. in Computational Biology, I began my career at KKR on the infrastructure team in Menlo Park, covering data centers, aviation and transport, and renewable energy. What became clear was how much of the value creation in these industries would come from technology. That took me to TPG's minority tech growth fund, where I worked on AI and consumer investments in some of the best late-stage businesses in the world. Data centers and consumer were both quiet corners of the market then, and AI has since turned both into some of the most interesting opportunities.

I joined General Catalyst to back growth-stage founders rebuilding industries rather than optimizing their edges. I spend most of my time at the next frontier of consumer tech, but what I'm really drawn to is people who are early to a market others have written off and have the tenacity to stay there.

Outside the office, I'm most likely on the tennis court, in the mountains, or at an SF park with pastries.
