Wes Peltzman

I'm VP, Compliance & Regulatory Counsel at General Catalyst, where I focus on SEC compliance, conflicts management and fund formation work as GC scales and expands. This work has been a throughline of my career; it sits at the intersection of capital formation, regulation, and the operating mechanics that let a great firm run, and GC is a transformational place to do it.

My path here was not linear. Before law school, I joined Lattice as their first full-time employee, working in customer operations and business development. That experience taught me what it takes to build a company from the ground up. I later went in-house at a registered investment adviser, where I helped lead legal and compliance work across the fund platform. Most recently, I was at Cooley LLP in the fund formation group, advising venture funds and fund-of-funds on fundraising and formation matters. While there, I also helped lead a cross-functional team that implemented AI tools across the firm. That back-and-forth between law firm and operator seats shaped how I work today; I bring outside-counsel rigor with the pragmatism of someone who has sat on the business side.

What drew me to GC is how the firm approaches its work: with calculated aspirations, relentless curiosity, and a focus on helping the people around us succeed. I see compliance through that same lens, as a path to supporting transformation rather than a back-end review function. The best compliance work is built into how a firm operates and iterates, earning trust and helping the founders and partners we serve.

I earned my J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and my B.A. in Communications from the University of Maryland.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me hiking with my wife and our two large rescue dogs, whose insatiable energy keeps us all moving. I love live music, comedy, and Philly sports. Go Birds!
