Sahir Jaggi built Forus on a conviction most people in medicine share but few act on: the pace of medicine only matters if it reaches the people who need it.
Today, Forus emerges from stealth. Our health assurance thesis centers on the belief that better systems can make medicine more effective and available, and that conviction is why we led Forus' Series A and are doubling down on Forus' Series B. Forus has now raised over $160M to transform how people, including those with high costs or chronic conditions, unlock the most important medications.
Unlocking Medicine
Access is the core problem in American medicine. Between a prescription being written and a patient starting treatment sits a maze of payers, pharmacies, pharma programs, and paperwork that hasn’t evolved in decades. The cost of that maze is staggering. Roughly half of patients with chronic conditions never take their medications as prescribed, contributing to an estimated $528 billion annually in avoidable spending. Behind that number are patients who simply gave up.
Providers spend an average of 13 hours per week navigating this process. Nearly 80% of physicians report patients abandoning treatment because of it. For chronic and life-threatening conditions, every day of delay is the difference between a therapy working and a patient declining.
Sahir’s vision is audacious: automate the entire journey from prescription to treatment, across every drug, every payer, and every prescriber in the country, and use AI to fundamentally change the cost structure. He assembled an exceptional team across engineering and operations to build technology that gets better with every prescription processed. His tenacity has shaped Forus' culture, and the NYC office has become a magnet for outstanding talent. Culture is one of those things you're supposed to feel rather than describe, and as a result, it always feels a bit squishy in blogs like this one. What we'll say is this: after an intense sprint to reach a quarterly goal last fall, we brought pizzas to the office half expecting a worn-out team, only to find a packed office celebrating together. It made clear why so many exceptional people want to work at Forus.
Forus is rebuilding the entire infrastructure between a prescription and a patient. Powered by AI, Forus integrates directly into provider EHRs and automates the entire journey from prescription to patient, including benefits verification, prior authorization, appeals, manufacturer program enrollment, cost optimization, and pharmacy routing. It works across every drug, every insurer, and every pharmacy, at no cost to providers or patients.
Biopharma has also seen the value of enabling patients who need their therapies to quickly access them. Five of the top ten pharmaceutical companies already work with Forus, and as the platform connects more prescribers to more payers and more therapies, it generates a view of how medications move through the system that no single PBM, payer, or EHR can see today. This network positioning is what makes Forus the infrastructure layer of medication access in America.
Playing the Long Game
Forus supports thousands of healthcare providers across all 50 states. One provider group reported that Forus cut prior authorization turnaround time from over 7 days to a median of 1.1 days, while reducing the administrative workload on nursing staff by 70%. Provider staff who once spent entire days on paperwork have redirected that time to patient care, with patients starting medications faster and providers reclaiming their days. As Forus' network grows, we get closer to a world where the velocity of scientific progress is the only limit to medicine.
We're both grateful and excited to partner with Sahir and the team as they bring Forus to every drug, every provider, and every patient.
